Hypnotherapy has been shown to help with many different aspects of cancer treatment. It is a very relaxing and empowering therapy and can assist you in taking back some of the control you may feel you have lost since your diagnosis.
Hypnotherapy can help you to
Reduce nausea and vomiting
Relax
Manage pain more effectively and naturally
Manage anxiety and stress more easily
Feel more in control of your life and your body
Continue life after treatment, whether that's coping with any permanent physical changes or overcoming symptoms of worry, trauma or guilt.
What Happens During a Session?
When you first come and see me we will spend the first session getting to know each other and chatting about your diagnosis, treatment and how you are feeling generally. We will then set some realistic goals together and decide how hypnotherapy can help you reach those. As everyone comes for a different reason, these will vary from person to person.
I will begin by showing you some relaxation techniques and will ask you to practise these at home or to listen to one of my audio sessions before we meet again.
From the second session onwards we will gradually work towards your goals in the best way for you. This will involve me leading you into a relaxed and focused state of mind where we can begin to make those changes. I will help you to relax and then use positive visualisation and suggestion to help you to connect your mind and body and focus on the changes you would like to make.
Each therapy session lasts for up to an hour with the actual hypnosis taking around 30 minutes. This gives us time for a chat before we start so we can monitor your progress and also gives us time at the end to talk over anything that came up for you during hypnosis.
How Many Session Will I Need?
This is something that varies from person to person but I usually recommend at least four sessions to start really seeing the progress and noticing the changes. Hypnotherapy can cause quite subtle changes that you don't always notice until you look back and realise how far you have come. We can take it week by week and you can come for as long as you feel you need or want to.
Everything I do is very client-focused and client-led and you will be treated first and foremost as a person rather than a "cancer sufferer", "cancer survivor" or any other label. In fact, I will do my best to help you shake off any of those tags you may have picked up as we want to get you back to being you as much as possible and feeling more in control of your life and body. Whatever help you need to help you through this particular journey is fine by me, so please get in touch for a chat if you think I can help.
I am working with Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support and offering discounts to anyone who comes via their group. Please ask for details.
